The Penmi Poems – A Requiem
The Penmi Poems – A Requiem by Mmhonlumo Kikon
” Pemni Phazang Kikon lived for 35 years and seven months more. The Penmi Poems are a requiem for Penmi or Apen as we endearingly called her. The photos of the paintings, prints and sketches displayed in the book are her works which she finished during her time as a student at the Delhi College of Art. Though her small oeuvre of work is spread across Delhi, Imphal and Nagaland, she never had the intention of exhibiting her existing works of art. Apen wanted to wait for a suitable time in her life to get back to serious painting once our daughters grew up. This was not to be and she died before she could fulfil her dreams. These poems are a attempt to showcase her works and also to preserve it for our daughters Noying and Lumchi, to remember her by.
This book is dedicated to the life and memory of Apen.”
** Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to orphanages Penmi supported during her lifetime.
